A little while back I blogged about Oreo cupcakes and it went OFF! Obvs everyone is fond of a cupcake that is drenched in chocolate, more chocolate and a swirl of decadent cream cheese. I know I am, and I’m not even a cupcake fiend.
I stumbled across this decadent yet simple recipe on food.com, which was submitted by a member called Nan in Ontario. I made a few tweaks.
I made these for a family picnic and everyone, including my hard-to-please dad, enjoyed them. Did I mention how yummy they are?
GATHER:
1 package cream cheese, softened
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/3 cup sugar
1 pinch salt
About 100grams dark chocolate cut into chunks
¾ cup caster sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable [not olive] oil
LET’S GET TO IT:
Preheat oven to 180C and line 20 cupcake pans with liners.
In bowl of electric mixer combine cream cheese, egg and sugar.
Add choc chunks and set aside.
In another bowl combine remaining ingredients then fill cupcake wrappers ¾ full with mix.
Drop large spoonful of cream cheese mixture on top.
Bake 20-25 minutes.
What can I say? Good things come from Ontario! I would like one right now — and it is breakfast time! (more time to burn them off that way!)
I never met a Canadian I didn’t like 🙂
Oh my.
Chocolate AND cheese. You are killing me. You are really killing me.
But what a way to go…
LOL! Step aside Death By Chocolate……
WOW!!
Indeed 🙂
Looks super yum – sort of like cheesecake cupcakes?!
Bingo! They are *so* easy to make.
These look delicious! I might have to try them this weekend 🙂
Thanks! You’ll be glad you did 🙂
Wow, these look so scrumptious!
Thanks, they are pretty delish!
Hard to please families must realise how lucky they are to have you hungry mum! It’s funny how often I’ll trial something new and taste test on my guy/workmates/friends depending on what it is. The appeal in these cupcakes is definitely the two toned, cream cheesy & chocolate layer, 🙂
Oh yeah – often my work friends are guinea pigs! If I’m trying a new recipe that I’m not 100% sure of I make hubby try it first – he’s less likely to sue if I make him ill! On the flipside, my daughters get soooo excited on the rare occasion I buy bickies [which are always used in baking anyway] as I think they are over home made bickies!
These look amazing! Hmm, I’m definitely going to get fatter reading your delicious blog, ha 🙂
Thanks! Yep, you won’t find health food on my blog but sugar makes life sweeter 🙂
Following your blog could be dangerous for my waistline! 🙂
Yeah, it is an occupational hazard! I find joining, although not actually attending a gym, evens things out a bit 🙂
wow these look so delicious!! 🙂 and easy!
Easy & delish – what more could you want?!
Now that’s a combo worth baking! Love chunks of chocolate in cupcakes
Oh, me too! Thanks 🙂
That’s an awesome mix! They look so pretty with no icing. I love them!
Thanks! I’m fairly allergic to making icing [soooo time consuming] so I almost never ice things 🙂
Oh my gosh! It looks absolutely yummy! I’m pretty sure my kids would love it. Serve them anything cheesy or chocolatey, they’d adore you! Thanks for sharing your recipe.
Thanks for your lovely words Rose! I must say, I don’t have a sweet tooth but these could be my downfall 🙂
These look very indulgent and perfect for a picnic! I love cheesecakey and chocolatey things so this is right down my alley!
Portable desserts are always good! And cheesecakey is the best word I’ve heard in FOREVER!
So naughty. So delicious. I’ll have 4, please 🙂
Sometimes naughty is the only way to go 😉
Love the post! They look delicious!!
Cheers! They are damn fine 🙂
YUM! Is all I can say…
Yeah, they are fairly delish 🙂
Wooow!! Chocolate and cream cheese! I’m bookmarking this one. Honestly, my migraine doesn’t like cream cheese that much but I will try this! This is divine!!! 😀
O no – migraines are the worst. This is a wonderful cake, hopefully you can try one without getting a sore head x
Haha! You know, I just copied this on Word document to save it and include it finally on my list – just five minutes ago!! Anyway, my migraine really hates cream cheese but I will give this a try and will let you know. And thanks a lot for following back. 🙂
Such a lovely post! I made them a few a days ago & loved them immensely! xxx
did you really?! So happy that you loved them – I reckon they are a real winner.
I think so too! 🙂
