Want a quick, warming dessert for these cool autumn nights? This apple crumble is just about the easiest recipe you’ll ever make. As you can see from the photos I roped in Misses 4 and 6 and they did everything except using the oven. So put your kids to work and enjoy this dessert tonight.
There are several squillion variations of this dessert around and I’m not even sure where the one I used originated. I use tinned apples but feel free to use peeled, cored and diced apples stewed with sugar, butter and cinnamon until squishy instead.
GATHER:
1 large [800gram] tin of cooking apples
ยฝ ย cup slow cooking rolled oats
1 cup plain flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
100g chilled butter, chopped
2 x generous shakes of cinnamon and allspice
LETโS GET TO IT:
Preheat oven to 170C and grease a 6-cup capacity ceramic or glass ovenproof dish.
Tip apples into dish, stir in the cinnamon and allspice and mix.
Place flour, sugar and oats in a bowl and rub in butter until it is the texture of lumpy sand. Sprinkle over a dash of cinnamon and allspice.
Bake in oven for around 25 minutes or until topping is golden.
Serve warm with custard/cream/ice cream/all of the above.
Apple crumble is one of my all time fav desserts ๐ Great job getting the kids to do all the work too!
hehehe! May as well keep their little hands busy lest they get into things they shouldn’t ๐
