This Donna Hay cake is simple and impressive and can be jazzed up with the addition of a quick icing. It isn’t overly chocolaty which could be a good or a bad thing, depending on how you feel about chocolate or how early in the day it is – while choc addicts would argue that it is never too early in the day for a chocolate hit I would actually disagree (ducks for cover). This cake neatly straddles the issue though – there is just enough chocolate for any time of day. Continue reading
Chocolate chunk cookies
22 MarAs far as I am concerned a cookie, or bickie to put in the local vernacular, must be chunky and full of chunks of flavour. None of these delicate little wafers for me – I want a biscuit with bite. Something substantial where I can see the bits and pieces before I taste them. Ladies and gentlemen, friends of miss9 who read my blog and Pin my recipes (hi Macy, Ella and Alana) allow me to present a cookie made even better thanks to the addition of brown butter. Continue reading
Orange liqueur cake with white chocolate ganache
15 MarI wish I could be paid to spend all day trawling Pinterest for delicious things to bake. I mean, I’m good at it. I enjoy it. I can and do spend hours falling down baking-related rabbit holes. But I just don’t think anyone is going to whip out the chequebook any time soon.
Sigh. Continue reading
Easy three ingredient Nutella cookies
5 MarYou will not find a simpler from scratch recipe that delivers such bang for your buck in terms of taste.
I found this recipe on sheknows.com and was apprehensive – could it really be any good with just three ingredients and using just one bowl? Continue reading
Donna Hay salted caramel brownies
23 FebSo simple. So quick. So very moreish and delicious. This bake ticks all the boxes and then some. I know the hip kids moved on from salted caramel a while ago (overkill and all that) but in my world whenever I present salted caramel anything the reaction is always the same – people falling over themselves to ensure they don’t miss out. Continue reading
Toffee apple cake
19 FebApples, eh? Something that looks shiny and crisp at the markets can turn out to be a fraud when bitten into. Soft. Floury. Bruised. That was our experience after being swindled at a farmer’s market recently. Before I continue let me say that I adore farmer’s markets and the farmers that produce our food. I have no idea how fraudulent apple man managed to get a stand at these popular markets but he did. Money was exchanged. Apples were bought. Disappointment on one side of this transaction ensued.
So there we were – a fruit bowl full of dud apples that Misses 7 and 9 kept boomeranging back from school each day.
If you are a follower of this blog or know me in the real world you would know that my instant reaction was to turn these fraudulent apples into a cake. Continue reading
Paul Hollywood’s chocolate chip shortbread petticoat tails
13 FebHave you seen the Great British Bake Off? I love it! An Australian version was short-lived but to be honest the British version really appealed to me. I love learning about the history of cakes and tarts – as a history and all-things-British nerd I find the back-story of the bakes fascinating. Continue reading
Nigella Lawson love heart cut-out cookies for Valentine’s Day
10 FebIn Australia Valentine’s Day is just a minor blip on the calendar, not the huger than huge occasion it is in the US. Nonetheless it gives me a perfect excuse to dust off my heart-shaped cutters and to create something sweet. Continue reading
Donna Hay chocolate cookies with peppermint filling
7 FebI think I am in the minority when I say it should be a case of ‘never the twain shall meet’ with chocolate and peppermint. Followers of my blog will know that I don’t have a sweet tooth but that’s not the reason for my somewhat controversial belief. Continue reading
Easy raspberry sorbet and vanilla ice-cream cake (no churn easy ice cream)
2 FebSummer in Sydney is just too hot. Balmy days. Hot nights with no drop in temperature. Cooking is just too hard and dinner is often salad or something equally refreshing.
While I won’t go near the stove for make a meal I will happily prepare something sweet. Continue reading
